Yoyoyo! I am back from my 5 day trip to Sarawak. Well, actually I was back since Sunday but I was too lazy to log onto blogger. But yeah, I honestly miss it. Although it can't match up to the adventurous holiday in Thailand last year (which I swear is the best holiday I've ever went to so far), it was really nice to be overseas. I just hate being in this always crowded, always busy, always rushing and always stressful life of Singapore. I love how even in the city in Sarawak, it is so laid back. The streets and roads are rarely crowded. It was a really nice and relaxing getaway :D

So yeah, I'm here to blog about my stay there. Just a piece of warning, it'll be a pretty long post. Hehe.

DAY ONE.
We didn't do much on the first day. Basically, the two families met and travelled to Sarawak by plane together. First time I was in the Budget Terminal and it sure lived up to its name. Heh. There really isn't much in the terminal and is nothing compared to the other terminals.

When we arrived in Kuching, Sarawak, we checked in the hotel. Stayed at Hilton hotel and our rooms had a nice view of Sungei Sarawak. After chucking our luggage in the hotel room, we walked along the river and had seafood on a rooftop for dinner. It was really nice :D But even that, I was quite beat when we reached the hotel room.

Oh and did i mention that i find the traffic lights there just too cute. You know here in Singapore, when the green man is about to turn red, it will start flashing or blinking so that you will hurry up right? Well, in Sarawak, it's about the same. The big difference is that the green man is actually animated. So it is literally walking. Haha. And when there's 10 seconds left before the red man comes on, it will speed up like as if it was running! Damn cute right? Haha. We should have those in Singapore :D

us camwhoring in the hotel room bathroom!

DAY TWO.
Woke up damn early for breakfast so that we could make it in time for our tour which started at like 8am! Just imagine how early we had to wake up lah. So yeah, our city tour started with a visit to the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, where we could see Orang Utans in their natural habitat. Our tour guide told us that we were lucky to see two cos sometimes, they won't even come out. Must have been my lucky charm. Haha. Oh and they named the Orang Utans such interesting names like 'George Clooney', 'Bush', 'Annuar' and more. Haha.

can you spot the baby orang utan clinging onto its mummy?

a very unglam shot of my brother.

at the entrance. we couldn't resist a family photo :D

Then we went to this crocodile farm cum mini zoo. I swear I have never seen so many crocodiles in my entire life. And they were all so huge!

i forced her into this pose. haha.

seems like alot of crocodiles right? mind you, this is only one cage out of like 20??

we managed to catch the crocodiles in action feeding.

After lunch, we visited tons of other places too. Learned abit of the history of Sarawak. Like how Kuching got its name and all. Quite interesting but it does get boring lah. Heh. Went to the musuem and saw real human skulls being hung in the exhibits. Apparently, in the tribes, the warriors would hang the skulls of their victims in their houses as a mark of their strength and skill. Pretty gruesome huh? We also went to a pottery-making factory and watched them carve the intricate designs on the pots and vases. I wished I had their patience and determination. Haha. And the pottery sold there was way cheaper than in the souvenir shops but the quality was just as good :D If we could, I bet the moms would have bought those huge vases to put at home. Haha.

And our last stop was the tower in the heart of Kuching. Ok, I'm not so sure if it's in the heart of Kuching, but it definitely is somewhere in Kuching. Hehe. It was about twelve storeys high. The view was breathtaking. You could see the whole of Kuching and even as far as the mountains of Kalimantan, Indonesia. I loved the wind the best (:

we couldn't resist taking a groupshot. hehe.

the wind's nice but it messes up the hair ):

DAY THREE.
Moving day! Haha basically, we moved to another hotel or rather, a resort called 'Damai Puri'. And on the way there, we stopped by the cat musuem. A whole load of stuff about cats in there. I love cats but I wasn't really interested in knowing stuff about them. Haha.

presenting to you the younger kitties. haha. cute kan?

and these are the older kitties. i should be in the above group but there were only six holes ):

a real mummified cat from egypt. ooh.

And after we reached Damai Puri, chucked our luggage in the rooms and off we were to visit Kampung Budaya Sarawak or the cultural village. It was an interesting visit. Went in the replicas of the tribal and traditional houses, and there were many mini performances and demonstrations in the houses itself. They even gave this passport thing where we could collect stamps every time we visited a different house - immigration style. So cute seh. Haha. And to end off our visit there, we watched a cultural show which showcased the many different kinds of traditional tribal dances. I'm into traditional dance, so yep I enjoyed it :D

i was so scared the bridge would collapse or something!

my mum with a lady who was demonstrating some weaving.

we have cool passports! heh.

the guys with two supposedly tribal girls. the man on the right is so extra seh.

can you spot the supposedly tribal guy? and we should have gotten a picture of my dad who was taking this photo. his pose was so hilarious. sexy la konon. haha

it was a long way up to some of the houses. whew tiring tau.

macam pompuan cine dalam rumah melayu. haha.

watching the show reminded me of the sarawak dance i performed in sec2 :D

After the show, we had a late lunch nearby. Then, we went back to the hotel for a short swim in the pool. And we found out that even though the resort was really nice, there were no night activities at all. The swimming pool closed at seven and practically all the other activities ended at seven too. Pathetic right? So we ended up just relaxing in the room for the rest of the night. We were worn out anyway.

Oh, and I couldn't sleep well that night. Cos it was raining very heavily and the sound of the waves crashing was just so loud. The waves must have been pretty big too cos I felt the room vibrate several times. Scary seh. My mind that night was filled with thoughts of a tsunami. Nonsense ah Lissya. Haha.

DAY FOUR.
After breakfast, we walked along the beach. It was low tide so we had a long walk from the shore to the sea. I love beaches :D Wouldn't mind getting married on one. Hehe.

in sarawak terms, this is an example of a 'volkswagen'. haha.

we're standing in the south china sea!

we literally sunk in the sands! it was hard getting out after some time. heh.

Went for a swim in the pool after that. We tried to find some adventurous activities but there weren't any. Considered trekking but most of us didn't bring covered shoes and it was already quite late to set off. Considered cycling but there were only ten bicycles and eleven of us. Pathetic kan? So in the end, we thought of going jungle trekking abit in search of a waterfall. Uh but after eating lunch, we were all so tired and lazy so we didn't find the waterfall in the end. We didn't even make it into the jungle. Haha. But along the way, we did find this mini waterfall next to the road. We decided to take a photo with it to make ourselves feel better. At least we found some sort of a waterfall right? Haha.

We then decided to sneak into Damai Beach Resort to see if they have better activities there. And much to our relief, their activities are pretty much the same. All the fun water activities were closed anyway due to the monsoon season. And the resort was way more crowded than in Damai Puri. So yeah, it made me feel better that at least we have some peace and quiet. Haha.

we found the (mini) waterfall! hehe.

at damai beach resort.

it was a long and tiring walk k.

After all that walking, we returned to our resort and planned to go swimming in the pool again since there's nothing else to do. But we decided to stop by the beach and walk along the sea first. It was high tide and the waves were super strong. So one by one we got knocked down by the waves and got drenched. Haha. Even me and my sister, who weren't planning on going swimming again, got totally drenched. So yeah, we had some unplanned and spontaneous fun playing in the waves despite one of the twins losing their specs. Best la sey! :DD

the waves are really much stronger than they look.

DAY FIVE.
Last day in Sarawak. After checking out of the hotel, our most trusted driver brought us to some recommended places for us to buy the famous Kek Lapis Sarawak. Both families bought sixteen kek lapis in total. I'm sure that if we could, we would have bought so much more. Haha. Also bought the famous ikan masin there. Shucks I forgot the name. I think it's called Ikan Terubuk Masin? Not sure ah. Bought five in total.

After all that souvenir shopping, we were back in the airport and off to Singapore. And during our flight back, we experienced some air turbulence. And it was my first time experiencing turbulence. Quite scary actually. But I was too sleepy to really feel scared or anything. Haha.

final group shot at damai puri resort.

i couldn't resist taking a photo of the pretty kek lapis before it was all eaten up. heh.

So yup, that pretty much sums up my holiday in Sarawak. Urgh. I hate being back in Singapore. Cos it just means more rotting at home and supposedly doing my homework ): I DON'T WANT NEXT YEAR TO EVER EVER COME!!!!!!

But I did get a piece of good news when I reached back in Singapore. Found out that I'm receiving a Good Progress Award worth $200. Whee! I can now get that Esprit top I've been eyeing!! Studying for promos did pay off in the end :DDD

Enough said. Till next time!

do you catch a breath when i look at you?
are you holding me like the way i do?
cause i try and try to walk away
but i know this crush ain't going away.
